Twice a year, an entire country performs the same small maintenance act at roughly the same time. It is the closest thing left to a shared household rhythm, and it is under-used.
Attach the annual jobs to it
Smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries are the traditional one, and it works because the cue is external. The same weekend is a good home for anything else that runs annually and has no natural trigger: fire extinguisher check, emergency kit refresh, flashlight batteries, and a look at whatever insurance renews in the next quarter.
The principle generalizes
Tasks without a natural cue need to be attached to one that already exists. Birthdays, the start of the school year, the first cold night, the clocks changing — a borrowed rhythm beats a resolution, because you do not have to remember to remember.
